What a Boat Wrap Involves
A boat wrap is printed vinyl applied over the existing gelcoat or paint, covering as much or as little of the hull as you choose. Options range from a set of name decals and registration numbers through to partial accent graphics and full-hull colour changes.
Because the film sits over the original finish rather than replacing it, wrapping is reversible. The gelcoat underneath stays protected from UV while the wrap is on, and the film can be removed later without permanent alteration.
Marine Applications
Materials Used on Marine Applications

Marine work uses cast vinyl with a matched over-laminate. Cast film conforms to compound curves without shrinking back, which matters on hulls where the surface changes shape constantly.
The over-laminate is the layer doing the protective work. It shields the printed ink from UV, resists abrasion from fenders and dock contact, and makes the surface easier to clean.
Cast Vinyl
Conforms to hull curves and stays dimensionally stable.
Marine-Grade Adhesive
Formulated for constant moisture exposure.

UV Over-Laminate
Protects print from sun fade and salt exposure.
Removable
Comes away cleanly at end of life without damaging gelcoat.
Preparation and Care
Preparation determines how long the wrap lasts. The hull is washed, degreased and decontaminated before any film is applied, because salt residue and wax both prevent proper adhesion.
After fitting, the wrap needs a short curing period before the boat goes back in the water. Ongoing care is straightforward.
- Wash with mild detergent and a soft brush, avoiding abrasive compounds.
- Rinse salt off after each outing to prevent build-up along edges.
- Keep high-pressure washers away from film edges and seams.
- Avoid solvent-based cleaners and petroleum products on the vinyl.
- Antifoul and below-waterline areas are not wrapped and are handled separately.
